The hoopoe always is one of those birds I’m looking forward bumping into when I’m enjoying a holiday in the more southern parts of Europe. Over the first few days during our holiday, we managed to see them fly over a couple of times. Once, when focusing on a couple of Iberian magpies I simply didn’t notice two hoopoes sitting about 10 meters in front of me and only noticed them when the flew away – and never came back.

When we moved to our final accommodation, I went out for a walk with my oldest son and that’s when one pretty hoopoe finally started foraging very nearby. He didn’t seem to be bother by me and my camera!
